BERLIN and the BERLIN WALL

I want 1-2 pages written in English answering the following questions. Spend time going through the resources and picture collections and take notes. In the last 15 minutes of class, write a report.

1. How was Germany divided after the war? How many parts? Who controlled each area?
2. Why were people leaving East Germany after the war?
3. Why did the East German government decided to build wall(s)? What reasons did they give?
4. How many walls were there? Where were they? Was there just the Berlin Wall and no others?
5. Why was escape difficult? What happened if you try to escape? Give some statistics.
6. Describe 5 ways that people successfully escaped.
7. How were the borders/walls defended? What systems were in place?
8. When and Why did the Berlin Wall finally open? Why did East Germany's borders finally open? Tip: it wasn't David Hasselhoff.
9. When were the Two Germanies reunited? What issues had to be decided first? Who had to agree to the reunification of Germany?
