...lest anyone worry that the Döner is pushing aside more traditional staples of the German diet, there is reassuring news from Thuringia. Master butcher Harald Werner of Zella-Mehlis announced in late May that he had broken the record for the world's longest Bratwurst. He and six colleagues worked eleven hours at their meat grinders to produce an epic sausage stretching 3,046 meters - almost two miles of pork. The previous champion Bratwurst, by contrast, measured a very respectable 3,010 meters (9,903 feet). At this point, however, there is little proof of Werner's achievement: the record-setting Bratwurst has been consumed.
