Shortwave/Radio CatalogThis is the most comprehensive page for Shortwave and Radio enthusiasts. I'm a casual listener. Back in the 80's I used to listen to Radio Moscow, the BBC and VOA to get various perspectives on Cold War Issues, but I don't listen much anymore - I have a Sony ICW 7600GW since my Grundig YB 400 wore out.

At most, I now listen to peculiar late-nite AM types like Art Bell, Roger Fredinburg, and unusual shows like crackpot Gene Scott and Roy Masters, G. Gordon Liddy (a brilliant and eloquent but rogue and knavish fellow - affiliates, and various political broadcasts. I'll even listen to all the wild millenialist, apocalyptic and America-in-the-Bible types on occasion.

ART

My favorite artists are Albrecht Duerer, William Blake, Mathias Groenewald, Hieronymous Bosch, the Van Eycks. Search the World Wide Arts Resources page.I'm also fond of Turkish calligraphy and miniatures. I love Gothic architecture (Cologne Cathedral), Roman theaters (Ephesus and Aspendos), the mosques of Mimar Sinan, Byzantine churches, mosaics and icons, etc. Prague has to be one of my favorite cities for European architecture. I love snooping around in old churches in Istanbul, when I have the chance, above all.

SPORTS

There are several European teams that I used to like in the 90's, such as Paris-St. Germain, Monaco, Ajax Amsterdam, Eindhoven (sp?), Glasgow Rangers, various Italian teams, FC Koeln (I watched them as a child on Public TV when Hannes Weissweiler was trainer and Schuhmacher was a rookie), and Borussia Moenchengladbach.

My favorite Turkish teams are Galatasary (Cim-bom-bom!) and Trabzonspor. What a great day it was when Galatasaray knocked might Manchester United out of the UEFA cup in 1993. Turkish newspapers compared it to Turkish victories at the Dardanelles. My favorite Turkish players were Hakan, Hayrettin, Kucuk Metin of Galatasaray, and Unal of Trabzonspor. I can't say that I care for Besiktas or Fenerbahce, even though I lived in Moda for a year. I used to look out our kitchen balcony which faced in the direction of the Fenerbahce stadium. So many fans brought torches to the matches that it would look like the city was on fire from all the smoke.
